Scale Changes the Job.
A Montecito property is rarely one roofline. It is a main house, a guest house, a garage run, a gate, and a driveway between them — and lighting only the house leaves the rest of the approach dark, which reads as unfinished from the street.
That scale brings a practical problem most homeowners never think about: power. A long run of lights across several structures needs circuits that can carry it, and it needs timers so the whole property comes on together rather than in pieces. We plan that before anything goes up, because discovering it on install day means a compromised display.
The oaks and sycamores are the other Montecito feature. A mature coast live oak wrapped properly is more striking than any roofline, and it is also the part of the job that takes the longest. Branch structure differs on every tree, so it gets designed on site rather than off a diagram.
Design
Restraint Reads as Expensive.
Most of our Montecito clients want warm white and nothing else. No colour, no motion, no inflatables. The effect people are usually after is the house looking like it has always been lit that way — architecture picked out cleanly, with the lighting itself invisible.
That is a harder brief than it sounds, because it removes everywhere you could hide a sloppy run. Straight lines have to be genuinely straight, spacing has to be consistent across a hundred feet of fascia, and cords cannot show. It is the version of this job we most enjoy doing.
Design. Install. Maintain. Remove. Store.
The whole season is handled. You are not buying lights, you are not on a ladder, and you are not storing anything in January.
01
Design
We come to the property, look at the rooflines, the trees and the power, and design the display for the house you actually have.
02
Install
Commercial-grade lights, supplied by us, installed on timers so the property comes on together.
03
Maintain
If part of it stops working, we come out and fix it during the season. That is included.
04
Remove & store
Down in January, boxed, and stored with us until next year. Same display goes back up next season.
Montecito Questions.
Do you work with property managers and estate staff?
Regularly. Most Montecito jobs are scheduled through a manager or a house staff contact, with gate access arranged in advance. Tell us who to coordinate with and what the access is, and we handle the rest without needing you involved on the day.
Can you light the driveway and gate as well as the house?
Yes, and on a larger property we usually recommend it. Lighting the house but leaving the approach dark makes the display stop halfway. Driveway trees, gate structures and guest houses are all quoted as part of the same design.
Can you wrap mature oak trees?
Yes. A mature coast live oak is often the best feature on a Montecito property and it is the part of the job that takes the most time, because branch structure is different on every tree and the design is worked out on site rather than from a plan.
What happens after the holidays?
We come back, take everything down, and store it. Nothing goes into your garage, and next season the same display goes back up rather than being redesigned from scratch.
